Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), a subsidiary of the Japanese Automobile company, the Suzuki, is the largest Indian automobile manufacturer. Many hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and mini vans have come out of their stable including the most liked Maruti 800 which is no more produced. Presently the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is the largest selling Indian car.
Maruti Alto was originally introduced in India in 2000 and became the spiritual successor to the Maruti 800. Alto K10 was launched in 2012 with a more powerful engine. Alto K10 is available in petrol version only with two variants K10 LXI and K10 VXI. The prices of LXI and VXI are Rupees 3.29 and 3.42 lakhs respectively.
The Alto K10 is made curvier than its predecessor. The headlamp cluster is in ‘eagle-eye’ shape with clear lens. The body coloured bumper, the frontal fog lamps in round slots, the body coloured manually operable rear view mirrors and 13R steel wheels with covers ( for top variant) are the other features of the exterior.
The cabin of the Alto K10 is done in dual tone. Vibrant colours are used for the fabric seat covers and door trim. A powerful AC, front power windows, tinted glasses, a bench folding rear seat and a Speedo meter with an amber coloured illumination are the other internal features. The important safety features available are the central locking system, a key-off reminder, belts for all the seats, child lock facility for the rear windows, the frontal fog lamps, the power steering and the side impact beams. But an inbuilt music system and advanced safety features are missing in Alto K10.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is powered by a 998 cc, 67.1 bhp, 90 Nm, 12V K series engine giving a fuel economy of 20.92 kmpl in ideal conditions. The car can shift from 0 to 100 kmph in 13.3 seconds.
The Alto K10 comes in six shades of black, white, beige, silver, brick red and sunlight copper. The external dimensions of the car are 3620 mm length, 1475 mm width, 1460 mm height and 160 mm ground clearance. The kerb weight of this 5 seater is just 760 kg and the fuel tank capacity is 35 litres.
The front suspension of Alto K10 is McPherson type with torsion type roll control device and the rear one coil spring and gas filled shock absorbers with three link rigid axle and isolated trailing arm. The brakes are the ventilated disc type at the front and the drum type at the rear.
The main competitors for the Maruti Suzuki K10 are other small cars like the Hyundai Eon, the Tata Indica e-Xeta and the Chevrolet Spark.
